SPECIAL VISITORS

The Children’s School at Saint John’s is extremely proud of the fact that many guests and visitors are integrated into its program throughout the weeks and months. These individuals are  specialist in a variety of subjects and interest areas who provide both academic lessons as well as fun and entertaining sessions.  There is no additional costs for these opportunities and all are included in weekly tuition charges.

Some of our weekly visitors include:

Spanish with the Spanish Workshop is a  half-hour lesson (Tuesdays) that introduces the children (ages two and up) to simple words, phrases and songs of the Spanish language. In addition, stories and discussions on native customs are incorporated as well.

Music with Mr. David is a half hour lesson (Mondays) that gives all the children the opportunity to sing, dance and move to a variety of songs through a fast moving and energetic show.

Large Motor Activities with Miss Dana and Tumble Tots is  a   half-hour lesson (Thursdays) that allows all the children opportunities to practice their large muscles in a structured environment. Through the use of tumbling mats, balance beams, exercise balls, etc. the children will be exposed to an assortment of fun exercises and activities to help ensure that fundamental motor skills will be taught and reinforced through weekly planned activities

Yoga with Miss Katie is a half-hour lesson (Wednesdays) where the children (Pre-School and up) are engaged in several focused, yet fun activities to enhance physical flexibility, refine balance and coordination, develop focus and concentration,  and strengthen the mind-body connection! Can you Downward Dog? We can!

Science with Mad Science is a half-hour lesson (Alternating Fridays) to introduce children (Two’s and up) with hands-on and engaging activities to the world of science through an innovating and fun approach. Children have ample opportunities to practice experimenting, predicting, observing and measuring!!

Reading and Literacy with Miss Brooke is a 45-minute lesson (Alternating Fridays) that reinforces the pre-reading and pre-writing skills the children (Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten) have been developing in the classroom to date. Specific detail is given

The Bookmobile: Once a month a large bus from the Montgomery County Library, filled with hundreds of books, pulls in front of the school. The Pre-Kindergarten Class enter for a half-hour where a librarian reads several stories and introduces them to popular books and authors.  Our teacher also receive a bag full of books to read to their class until their next visit.

Additional Visitors: Throughout the year the school will be visited by individuals and/or groups to enhance the curriculum and to provide special entertainment. Examples may include: puppet shows, irish dancers, storytellers, etc.
